I wanted to take some time out to let you in on why I became a boudoir photographer.

The first boudoir session I did was for a friend, she asked if I'd be willing to do intimate photos for her.  I said yes because I had been seeing these types of photos gain popularity and I thought "Why not try something new".  Well, it turned out I loved it and I'll dig down a little deeper to explain why.

This is going to get a little vulnerable for me, but I think it's important for you to understand the motivation behind Joli Boudoir.  I have struggled with self confidence for as long as I can remember.  As a young kid, I was painfully shy and I grew up always feeling inadequate...physically and intellectually.  These feelings have certainly dwindled with time.  Life experience will do that for you, however I do still find myself feeling like I'm not good enough and playing the comparison game.  It's a deep-seated issue.  But it's important to me to improve my self worth and to help other women to do the same.

Boudoir photography, for me, is a sort of therapy.  I get as much healing from it as I hope for my clients to get.  It's about more than just pretty pictures.  While the average woman books a boudoir session as a gift to a significant other, my hope is that at the very least, there is a part of her that is booking it for herself.

I know other women struggle with the same issues to some degree or another.  It's important to me to help others like myself cope with their feelings of inadequacy.  We focus so much on what we don't like in ourselves, that I want to help women see what's beautiful about themselves.  I need you to understand that no matter who you are, what you look like, where life has taken you...you are enough.  You should embrace ALL of yourself, the "good" and the "bad".  It all comes together to make you who you are.  You deserve to see just how beautiful you are.

So you've been thinking about booking a boudoir session...but something is holding you back. You probably have a dozen reasons not to book a session, but I'm here to to give you my top three reasons why you absolutely should treat yourself to a boudoir shoot.

1. Celebrate Something - Boudoir sessions are a great way to celebrate milestones. A new marriage, a new job, a new body, a new tattoo. Maybe you're newly single, or you want to celebrate a big birthday. Whatever the reason is, celebrate where you are at in your life right now!

2. Makes a great gift - Boudoir photos make wonderful gifts for significant others, of course. Engagements, anniversaries, Valentines Day, birthdays, even Christmas are all great times to gift boudoir photos. I mean, who wouldn't love to get a gift like that from the person they love. It's thoughtful and they last a lifetime. And it's not just for those in a relationship, a boudoir session is an awesome gift for YOURSELF!

3. Most importantly, boost your self confidence - There is nothing like sexy photos of yourself to give you that confidence boost. As women, we tend to be too hard on ourselves, constantly comparing what we have or don't have to the women around us. We all have that inner voice trying to tear us down. It's time to turn that inner voice around and a boudoir session helps you see yourself in a completely different light. Don't worry, your photographer will coach you the whole way through, and you will be thrilled with the results.

Whatever reason you have for considering a boudoir session, just go for it!

I've never really used props of my own in my boudoir sessions. I really prefer to use props that are personal to my clients, props that you bring to your session. However, I got to thinking it would be nice to have just a few simple things for you ladies to choose from during your sessions.

First is this eye mask. I love this option and thought it would be something a bit different.

Next is this see through robe. I also purchased a solid robe which can be used in your photos or just in between outfit changes.

I also got some garters and a couple of boas, which would be perfect for a bridal boudoir session. I'm so excited to offer these options in my upcoming sessions and I hope you love them too!
